*<+>{: The Matriarch of Mississippi :}<+>*

I was inspired to write this poem after reading this tumblr on instagram. It's a bit silly but enjoy :D.

The Matriarch of Mississippi

There once was a woman who was very old,
Many a generation she got to hold.
For God and the Devil could not agree,
Who would be the one to set her spirit free.
She was wiser than all the rest,
And even then she'd like to jest.

Then one day it was decreed,
The devil will be the one to set her spirit free.
And so he came with a snicker and a smile,
He sent a sickness so sick and vile.
Thought it struck her, she was not dismayed,
For she was back up in half a day.

With a laugh and a smile she said to me,
"Don't ever think you be really free."

Since then, a year, and she continues to live,
And hundredfold more, God has yet to give.
